Data Collection

Data collection is a key component in the production process and refers to the collection, compilation and management of data from production activities. Data collection from a production process can be defined as manual, whereby data is entered by the operator or automated, whereby data is collected from a machine that is equipped with a sensor or programmable logic controller (PLC). Sensors and PLC’s provide information about the products during manufacturing. Accurate data collection is essential when calculating key performance indicators such as overall labour effectiveness (OLE) and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
