A common question asked by our user base is what changes need to be made to LYNQ if we replace the SQL Server or decide to migrate the databases to another SQL Server.

During the installation of LYNQ, the name or IP address of the SQL server is requested and stored within the web config files for both LYNQ mom and LYNQ api.  If this information changes, you must run the Repair option in the Product Updater for both LYNQ mom and LYNQ api and specify the new SQL server IP address or name.

Note: IIS uses a SQL account to read data in the SQL database.  When LYNQ mom and LYNQ api are installed, this information is entered in the SQL user field against each database that is required for the application to function.  When migrating databases of LYNQ to another server, it is unlikely that the SQL user specified in the original installation will exist on the server where the databases are being migrated to.  The SQL user account must be re-created and the correct password set in the configurator screen against all databases. Create the SQL user account before running the product updater.  The SQL user account must have a minimum of db_owner rights to all databases included in the configuration.

To update the SQL Server for LYNQ aps

LYNQ aps stores the SQL server name within the database connection on each Visual APS client and each user will need to need to manually update this information.  To create a new database connection, please refer to the related article.  Note: Any windows users, windows groups that have been specifically setup in SQL for APS users will need to be re-created on the new SQL Server, along with their mappings.

To update settings in LYNQ that store the SQL Server Name

Some settings within LYNQ store the SQL Server Name.  These settings should be updated to reflect the migrated SQL databases.  These settings are not updated during a repair and must be completed manually.

  1. Within LYNQ api select Instance Settings
    1. Edit each API instance and update
      1. Server (New SQL Server Name)
      2. User ID (SQL user account)
      3. Password (SQL user password)
      4. Database (this should be the ERP database)
  2. Within LYNQ api open each instance and update the API Settings
    1. Check that any service URL's are specified correctly and update if the ERP api has been installed to a different server
    2. Under MOM Settings update
      1. Server (New SQL Server Name)
      2. User ID (SQL user account)
      3. Password (SQL user password)
      4. MOM Data Database (update if restored to a different name)
