Top Tips

You can also manage the run time factor using constraints. For example if a particular stock code can run on all alternative work units however is slower on one this can be predefined in stock code constraints.

Scenario:

I have an alternative work unit group set up however a particular stock code(s) must run on it's primary machine. We need to ensure that we are unable to schedule that stock code to any alternative machine both when scheduling manually and automatically.

Solution(s):

Stock code constraints can be used to exclude stock codes from being scheduled to alternative machines. Whilst you have the ability to turn off the use of alternatives either by default or on the fly this relies upon the scheduler manually enabling or disabling this feature and therefore does not eliminate the risk of accidently scheduling to an alternative. To avoid this follow the below steps.

  1. Select the Global constraint that the product constraint is going to be associated with
  2. Click the "Product Number - Operation Description" tab
  3. Click "Add New"
  4. Enter product number (or use the search function next to the text box)
  5. Enter the Operation Description if the constraint is to be operation specific (if left blank, all product number operations completed within the global constraint will adopt the constraints set here)
  6. A variety of options are available for constraint settings - Set as required. In this specific scenario you need to enter '0' in each field.
  7. Click OK
  8. To make changes, click on the Edit button alongside the appropriate Constraint Type for the the selected constraint.

You must then assign the constraint to the resource. To assign the constraint to a resource select the resource from the Schedule board, right click and select Edit. Change the resource type to the newly created constraint.
